Gain the CQ Advantage – Introducing LearnCQ.com: A Website for Personal and Professional Success

My first encounter with cultural intelligence was eight years ago when I applied for a part-time administrative position with the Cultural Intelligence Center.  As a recent college graduate most of my experience with people from different backgrounds was limited to international students I met on campus. As a young professional working for a global company, I recognized my need to learn how to work with people from all over the world. CQ quickly became more than part of the company I was working with. It was a must-have for my own professional success.

Now, as Vice President of Operations, I have learned how to develop and apply cultural intelligence to my personal and professional life. In doing so, I have become a more effective leader and colleague and a better friend and partner. CQ is a tremendously powerful framework that has taught me how to diagnose and respond to complex intercultural situations. It is a new way of seeing and experiencing the world.

Cultural intelligence (CQ) is defined as “the ability to relate and work effectively with people from different nationalities, ethnicities, age groups, and more.” And, like other skillsets, it is proven to be malleable. Research has demonstrated that anyone can improve CQ—yes, anyone—regardless of background or experience. With practice, dedication, and accountability, individuals can develop their CQ to become powerful negotiators, effective managers, better partners, and improved global citizens.

Today, I reflect on how tremendously fortunate I have been to develop my cultural intelligence under the guidance of dedicated and esteemed CQ experts, including David Livermore, Linn Van Dyne, Sandra Upton, Lyla Kohistany, and Kristin Ekkens.

Surprised by my awesome colleagues on my 5th anniversary!

Here at the Cultural Intelligence Center, we believe the work we do can make the world a better place, and we are motivated to spread cultural intelligence awareness, training, and development across the globe.

I am excited about the launch of LearnCQ.com, a site dedicated to the growth of personal and professional success through cultural intelligence assessments and development courses.
